Encompass gets new branding
Charcoal Design | Friday, July 09, 2010
Encompass is a health, wellbeing and lifestyle education company that specialises in personal training, community programs / events and educates in fitness, lifestyle, health and wellbeing. Our goal was to encapsulate the essence of their services into an eye catching design. Using a series of rings "encompassing" the E draws the eye in and gives a dynamic look to the design.
Orion's new site
Charcoal Design | Friday, July 09, 2010Orion Development Consultants is an Auckland-based business offering services in land planning, engineering and surveying. Charcoal was enlisted to design and build a site which would offer potential clients a clear and concise overview of their business and an easy method of contacting them. We designed the site so that it echoed their philosophy—getting the job done, on time and on budget, to the highest quality. The design is focused on enabling the visitor to easily browse with a minimum of fuss. The contact page incorporates a form to enable Orion to respond quickly to any enquiries. Built on the Charcoalonline platform means the site is fully editable by Orion via the user-friendly Charcoalonline interface. Having designed Orion's full corporate identity a few years back we were able to create a site which fitted in with the visual theme we had earlier created for them.
New ID for advertising company
Charcoal Design | Friday, July 09, 2010One of our latest projects is a logo for Signature Advertising Group, based in USA. When Charcoal offered a design using the initials in the icon this hit the mark. Because Signature is involved with Advertising, Direct Mail, Graphic Design, Printing & Mailing, the boxy nature of the icon reflected the different aspects of their business well. Hightlighting the S in blue left the letters AG, which happen to be the initials of the CEO, and was very relevant since the company is often known as Signature "AG".
Sunshine Coast building company ID
Charcoal Design | Friday, July 09, 2010When we developed the logo for Sunshine Renovations we were asked to make this logo work on bright red, the colour of their trucks. This worked out well because a burnt sun shape over stylised rooftops really leaps out over the red background. Just what they need to get their brand seen around the Sunny' Coast.
Davis Automotive Group ID
Charcoal Design | Friday, July 09, 2010Our new logo design for luxury Ohio, USA, automotive business Davis Automotive Group incapsulates their exclusive brand by the creation of custom lettering for their initials. Known as DAG, they sell high-end brands such as BMW, Jaguar, Land Rover and Maserati. The strong, confident style of this design will work well alongside these famous brands. Using the D in reverse as the G gives a symmetry and uniqueness to the design, whilst the asymmetric A deliberately creates a dynamic diagonal in the centre to draw the eye in.
Brands created by Charcoal
Charcoal Design | Thursday, July 08, 2010Charcoal Design has a profile on the Brandstack website where we offer brands for sale. Over last few months we've seen many of our brands go to a new home and here is a bit of a showcase of these brands. All of these included the domain name—buying a logo with the domain already organised means you've got a ready-to-go package. Whilst this is an interesting side line for us our main interest lies in working directly with clients to solve their creative brief and form lasting business relationships. This nice thing about the transactions through Brandstack is that this is exactly what happens. The buyer asks for more design services and so the relationship begins. Or a business owner might just like your work after browsing your profile and contact you to look at a new project. Awesome. So if you're looking for a creative solution to your design project please don't hesitate to contact us to discuss what we can do for you. And thanks to Brandstack for offering a great platform to reach business owners globally.
New ID for travel company
Charcoal Design | Thursday, July 08, 2010Hot off the press is a new logo for travel company Way To Go Travel and Tours, a US-based agency specialising in creating tailored travel experiences, with a personal service and attention to detail which sets them apart from their competitors. The brief involved a requirement to incorporate a reference to trips for couples, such as honeymooners or romantic getaways. We didn't want this aspect to be too dominant so the concept was to incorporate a heart into the travel swirls around the globe—the result was spot-on according to the CEO of Way To Go. We wanted something that would echo Way To Go's experience with international travel but didn't want just another earth globe. So the dynamic lines offered a way to illustrate long and short trips that cover the globe, and give the whole design a feeling of fun and excitement in a unique way. The result, below, is a strong and memorable design—the feedback from Way To Go Travel and Tours has been very positive.
On a mission
Charcoal Design | Tuesday, March 16, 2010As part of our own recent identity rework we've been working on our mission statement. We wanted to get right to the crux of what we do for our clients, so that's what we did. The result is both our mission statement and tag line. It says what we need to say – in no uncertain terms.
With Charcoal Design on your case you know your brand is in good hands.
![]() charcoal gets a new logo
Charcoal Design | Monday, February 15, 2010New year, new inspiration, new challenges – it felt like the right time to give ourselves a fresh image which can encapsulate all the services which Charcoal Design has to offer. The outgoing logo has done us well – we've had a lot of great feedback over the last few years. So before it got stale we wanted to renew it with something, and that something is our new stripped-back, functional, uber-charcoal-ish logotype. Yes logotype folks.
We've brought the word "DESIGN" into the logo rather than just "CHARCOAL". The reason is we're branding our Web Design services under Charcoalonline and we want to differentiate the two. That way Charcoal Design is the brand which stands for great graphic design solutions to all manner of visual identity projects, and Charcoalonline is the Web-only department. Charcoalonline is rebranded also, but I'm not going to steal the limelight from Charcoal Design's new logo. So I'll do another post on the Charcoalonline logo... and go into some detail about the service. So here's the now obsolete logo... ![]() And presenting the new mark. It's simple. It's blocky. We like it. ![]() So that's it. Better get back to some work for our awesome clients, thanks for dropping by! one for our animal friends
Charcoal Design | Saturday, February 13, 2010Our latest client site is now live, fresh from the Charcoal studio. The company is call Holistic Animal Physiotherapy and their new site is getting great feedback.
Their old website was 100% Flash which meant that when they wanted to update it they had to contact their web designer. Getting changes done was becoming time-consuming and unmanageable. Charcoal Design was able to offer a complete redesign and the build was done with Charcoalonline which is our powerful integrated Online Business System, powered by Business Catalyst (an Adobe company).
View site here: Holistic Animal Physiotherapy
Now Holistic Animal Physiotherapy has complete control of the management of their website. Features they are making full use of include: Blog, Web Forms, Content Mangagement, Documents such as Animal Physiotherapy information pdf files being loaded to the site download page. They can keep track of visitors with Charcoalonline's live feed. Search Engine friendliness is taken care of thanks to great content, and careful planning at the site build stage. Brooke's blog helps to keep site content fresh and Google loves that!
It's quite a special service that Brooke Marsh (CEO) is offering – physiotherapy for animals, mainly dogs – but she's also treated a cheetah, koalas and other native fauna. If your pet is in need of some physio why not drop Brooke a line (Brooke services Brisbane an Sunshine Coast areas in Queensland, Australia).
The project actually commenced with the re-design of their new visual identity, the centre-piece being the new logo which portrays a hands-on approach and care for the animals. Since Charcoal Design was looking at the new site we asked the question; are you happy with your current visual identity? The answer was a resounding no. A fresh look was required. Having said that we always consider what has come before, so we kept a subtle 'feel' of the old identity even though it is visually brand new. So we worked together on creating a tight brief and Charcoal got cracking on delivering some fresh concepts. The resulting logo design was a real team effort – Holistic Animal Physiotherapy really played a big part in refining this design by providing clear and constructive feedback at every step of the design process. One key element of the design is the circular brush stroke, which reflects Brooke's holistic approach to the treatment and care of animals. ![]() |
